Shipping something alive

How your plant gets to you — and what happens if it doesn't travel well.

A plant is not a phone case. It is a living thing that spends a few days in a dark box, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. Here is exactly how far we ship, how we pack, what is normal on arrival, and what we do when it goes wrong.

Where we deliver, and how long it takes

We grow at around 1,800 m near Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, and ship pan-India from there. Orders leave the nursery within 24–48 hours. Transit time after that depends on how far you are from the hills.

RegionUsual transitWhat that means

These are typical ranges after dispatch, not guaranteed dates — festivals, weather and remote pincodes can add a day or two. We confirm every order by phone before it ships, so you'll always know what to expect.

Travelling a long way? These handle it best.

If you're at the far end of the map, pick a plant that stores its own water and shrugs off a long dark journey.

How we pack a living thing

1
Watered, then drainedWatered the day before dispatch and allowed to drain, so the roots travel damp but never waterlogged — sitting in water in a sealed box is what rots a plant in transit.
2
Root-lockedThe soil is secured at the neck of the pot so the root ball can't shake loose and tear its own roots when the box gets handled.
3
Cushioned and bracedLeaves are loosely wrapped and the pot is braced against the walls of the box so it can't roll. Taller plants get an internal collar.
4
Checked leaf by leafA person looks over every plant before it's allowed in a box. If it wouldn't survive the journey, it doesn't go.

What's normal when you open the box

Almost every plant looks a little travel-worn on arrival. That is not damage, and it is not a reason to panic — most of it corrects itself within a week.

Normal — it will bounce back

  • Drooping or limp leaves after days in the dark
  • A yellow lower leaf or two
  • Slightly dry topsoil, or a little soil loose in the box
  • A bent or creased leaf
  • Peace lilies in particular arrive dramatically droopy and stand back up within hours of a water

What to do: unbox it straight away, put it somewhere bright but out of direct sun, water lightly, and leave it alone for a week. Don't repot or fertilise yet — let it recover first.

Not normal — tell us

  • Stems snapped or the plant broken at the base
  • Mushy, blackened roots or a rotten smell
  • Most of the foliage dead or dried to a crisp
  • The pot shattered in transit
  • The wrong plant entirely

What to do: send us one photo within 48 hours of delivery and we'll replace it free. Details below.

The alive guarantee

If your plant arrives less than alive, we replace it free. No return shipping to arrange, no arguing, no sending it back.

  • Tell us within 48 hours of delivery, with one photo where possible. A photo of the plant in the box helps most.
  • We ship a replacement at our cost. You don't pay again and you don't post anything back — a dead plant is no use to us.
  • Keep the original. Plants that look finished often aren't; if it recovers, it's yours.
  • It covers the journey, not the months after. If it struggles later, message us anyway — we'd rather help you save it than sell you another one.
